Innersloth revealed Among Us Story: On Guard at Summer Game Fest 2026, a standalone single-player narrative adventure set in the Among Us universe. Coming to PC, Switch, and Switch 2, the game features three unique endings and a playable demo arriving June 15.
Innersloth officially announced Among Us Story: On Guard during Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026, marking the studio’s first original release since Among Us 3D in 2022. The game is a standalone single-player narrative adventure set in the Among Us universe, coming to PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A free playable demo launches on June 15, 2026.
What Is Among Us Story: On Guard?
Unlike the original Among Us, which thrives on multiplayer social deduction with 4 to 15 players, On Guard is an entirely single-player experience. Players step into a training simulation run by MIRA Research and Development, taking on the role of “Guard,” the crewmate responsible for shipwide security. When a murder occurs aboard the vessel, the player must prove their innocence and identify the Impostor before it eliminates the rest of the crew.
The game blends investigation, deduction, and task completion into a cohesive narrative. Innersloth describes it as “a dangerous narrative adventure through space” that reimagines the Among Us formula through a focused story lens.
The MIRA Method: Core Gameplay Mechanics
Innersloth structured the game’s core loop around what they call the “MIRA Method”:
- M (Meet): Experience the Among Us universe in a completely new way. As Guard, you are the first and last line of defense against threats to the crew.
- I (Identify): Track down the Impostor. Years of Emergency Meetings have sharpened your instincts for dealing with murders and false accusations.
- R (Reap): Uncover three unique endings inside the simulation. The Impostor count may be higher than expected.
- A (And complete tasks): Murder investigations do not exempt you from workplace duties. Complete tasks to progress through the world and discover clues to build your case.
Three Endings and Replayability
Among Us Story: On Guard features three distinct endings shaped by player decisions throughout the investigation. Who you accuse, which clues you follow, and how you interact with the crew all influence the outcome. Innersloth has confirmed the game will not be a lengthy experience. Instead, it aims to be a “chaotic, silly, and bean-sized” adventure that respects the player’s time while encouraging multiple playthroughs to see every ending.
A Colourful Cast of Suspects
The game introduces a roster of distinct crewmate characters, each with their own personality and potential to be the Impostor:
- Operator: The player character. You navigate MIRA’s training program and assume the Guard role inside the simulation.
- Management: Your approachable, caring boss who may have written their own description.
- Guard: A cynical, suspicious hard-boiled detective type. Exactly who you want running shipwide security.
- Cook: Sweet, innocent, and just days from retirement. Definitely not about to be murdered.
- Scientist: Obsessed with plants and science. Be careful they do not talk you to death.
- Engineer: Wrote an extensive summary of their skills, but nobody read it.
- Doctor: A streamer, even while on duty.
- Captain: Not into confrontation but very into “care-frontation.”
Updated Art Style and Visual Direction
Among Us Story: On Guard adopts a noticeably different visual approach compared to the original game. The art direction leans toward a sharper, cleaner vector style with a softer colour palette. Character dialogue is text-based with no voice acting. The trailer also revealed first-person segments where the player crawls through vents, adding a fresh perspective to the familiar Among Us mechanics. Multiple locations including a cafeteria and laboratory are explorable as part of the investigation.
When Does the Demo Launch?
The playable demo arrives on June 15, 2026, timed to coincide with Among Us’s birthday celebration. Players will be able to try a portion of the game through Steam. Alongside the demo, Innersloth will make the original soundtrack available for pre-save. The full game’s release date remains unannounced, listed as “To be announced” on its Steam page. Pricing has not been confirmed either.
Among Us Animated Series Now Streaming
The Summer Game Fest appearance also brought a major surprise for the franchise. The Among Us animated television series, originally announced in 2023, launched the same day with 10 episodes on Paramount+. The series features voice performances from Liv Hewson, Yvette Nicole Brown, Randall Park, Patton Oswalt, and Elijah Wood. Cast members appeared onstage at Summer Game Fest to promote the surprise release. The show follows a crew dealing with an alien shapeshifter Impostor aboard their ship.
Platform Availability and What We Know So Far
Among Us Story: On Guard is confirmed for PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Innersloth has indicated that additional platforms may follow in the future but has not committed to specifics. The game is listed on Steam under the Adventure, Casual, and Indie genres with single-player and Family Sharing features. It can be wishlisted now.
This standalone spin-off represents a significant expansion of the Among Us franchise. The original game, released in June 2018, became a global phenomenon during 2020 with hundreds of thousands of concurrent players on Steam alone. Since then, Innersloth has added new maps, roles (Shapeshifter, Engineer, Scientist, Guardian Angel), cosmetics, and Among Us VR. On Guard marks the studio’s first attempt at a dedicated narrative experience within that universe.

Is Among Us Story: On Guard free to play?
No. Innersloth has confirmed the game will cost money, though the exact price has not been announced. The demo launching on June 15 will be free.
Do I need to own the original Among Us?
No. On Guard is a completely standalone title. You do not need to own or have played Among Us to enjoy it.

No. The game is exclusively single-player. There are no online or local multiplayer modes.
How long is the game?
