The setup requirements and procedure of the earlier text are removed, and the firmware range is corrected.

GTA 4 has no official PS5 version on 26 October 2026. Rockstar sells Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition for PC on Steam at $ 19.99, and the game plays on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through Xbox 360 backward compatibility. Rockstar has announced no PS4 or PS5 release. One user reported running the PC version through an unofficial Linux project for PS5, and that project’s lead stopped work on it on 15 September 2026.

Where GTA IV is officially available

Platform

Status on 26 October 2026

Source

PC

The Complete Edition, released 24 March 2020, $ 19.99 on Steam; multiplayer and leaderboards are no longer available

Steam store page

Xbox One and Series X|S

Playable through backward compatibility, including the two Episodes from Liberty City

Xbox Wire, 9 February 2017

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4

No version announced

No Rockstar announcement

Rumours of a remaster or a PS4 and PS5 port have circulated since mid-2025. In July 2025 a Rockstar support page briefly listed PS4 among the supported platforms of GTA IV and then removed it, as PinkNews reported on 15 July 2025. Rockstar has not commented on any port, and its page for Grand Theft Auto VI lists 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What the PS5 Linux project is

In April 2026 the security researcher Andy Nguyen, known as TheFlow, released a project on GitHub that starts Linux on some PS5 consoles. It turns the console into a PC-like system. In early May 2026, Gaming Bible reported that a user called Speed-007 had run the Steam version of GTA IV on a PS5 and shared one screenshot at 4K. The article notes that no gameplay was shown, and the method was not described.

The project supports the original PS5 and the PS5 Slim on selected firmware versions from 3.00 to 7.61, according to It’s FOSS on 17 September 2026.

Why the developer stopped on 15 September 2026

On 15 September 2026 Nguyen wrote on X that he was stepping away from the PS5 scene and stopping all work on PS5 Linux. He said that a hypervisor bug which still worked on current firmware had been reported to Sony after he had asked others to wait until GTA 6 was released. PC Games Hardware reported on 17 September that the planned PS5 Pro support for 2027 is halted and that it is unclear whether Sony has closed the bug in a firmware update. The GitHub repositories stay online, and other contributors continue the loader. Sony has made no statement in the reports read on 26 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is GTA 4 on PS5?

Not officially. Rockstar has announced no PS4 or PS5 version of GTA IV as of 26 October 2026. The game is sold for PC on Steam and plays on Xbox One and Series X|S through backward compatibility.

Is there an official way to play GTA 4 on PS5?

No. There is no GTA IV product for PS5 or PS4 from Rockstar. One user reported running the PC version on a PS5 through an unofficial Linux project, whose lead stopped work on it on 15 September 2026.

Will GTA 4 get a PS5 remaster?

Rockstar has not announced one. A Rockstar support page listed PS4 for GTA IV in July 2025 and then removed it, which started the rumours. The studio’s next release is Grand Theft Auto VI on 19 November 2026.

Can you play GTA 4 on Xbox Series X?

Yes. Xbox backward compatibility runs the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV and its two episodes on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Digital owners install it from the Ready to Install list, and disc owners insert the Xbox 360 disc.

Sources

Steam store page, Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition (app 12210), read 26 October 2026

Xbox Wire, Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City playable on Xbox One, 9 February 2017

Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI, read 26 October 2026

Gaming Bible, GTA 4 on PS5 report, 3 May 2026

It’s FOSS, PS5 Linux lead quits, 17 September 2026

PC Games Hardware, PS5-Linux developer ends work, 17 September 2026

PinkNews, Grand Theft Auto IV is not getting a remaster despite rumours, 15 July 2025

Prepared by the GamerMarkt editorial team, with some help from AI tools; some images may be AI-generated.

A modder got GTA IV running on PS5 through Linux and Steam at 4K.
