New Ghost Recon game: What Ubisoft confirmed and what is still rumour

New Ghost Recon Set in Vietnam: Ready or Not Influence, First-Person Shift, and Everything Known So Far

Updated 26 October 2026: no title, footage or date has followed the 6 August confirmation, and Ubisoft has not announced dates for the Insider Program playtests. The claim ledger now reads as of 26 October.

A new Ghost Recon game is in development: Ubisoft confirmed it on 6 August 2026, at the series’ 25th anniversary, and opened a Ghost Recon Insider Program for closed playtests. Ubisoft has not confirmed a setting, a camera perspective, an engine, a title, a studio or a release date. The claims that the game is set in Vietnam, that it is first-person and that it runs on Unreal Engine 5 all come from leaks, and on 26 October 2026 none of them has an official source.

What Ubisoft has confirmed

Two Ubisoft documents carry the publisher’s own words. The 25th anniversary press release of 6 August 2026 confirms a free Wildlands update called Last Rites and the Insider Program at ghostrecon.com/insider for closed playtests of “the next Ghost Recon”. Live producer Irina-Gabriela Popa described “tactical action, large scale operations, credible military storytelling”. Closed tests are planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with no dates announced.

Ubisoft’s full-year 2025-26 earnings release of 20 May 2026 names Ghost Recon among the brands behind “a significantly stronger and diversified pipeline of content to come over FY2027-28 & FY2028-29”. That is a window from April 2027 to March 2029. A playtest programme and a pipeline line are the full extent of what the publisher has said.

Release in 2025 or 2026Tom Henderson, Insider Gaming8 Mar 2024Contradicted by Ubisoft’s own guidance

Henderson’s original report says its sources spoke “under the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the game yet”. He has a real record on Ubisoft and EA projects, and the report describes a build from two and a half years ago that has had time to change.

The Vietnam claim is weaker than the first-person claim

Henderson’s March 2024 report places the game in a fictional “Naiman War” in “a hostile southeast country”. Those are deliberately unspecific words for an invented conflict. “Vietnam” is a later claim from the X account @xj0nathan, repeated by aggregator sites until it merged with the Henderson details into one apparent fact. First-person play and the Naiman War rest on a named reporter with a track record; Vietnam rests on one anonymous account.

The leaked detail Ubisoft already contradicted

The March 2024 report said the game was “aimed to be released in 2025 – 2026”. In October 2026 there is no title, no footage and no date, and Ubisoft’s May 2026 filing places Ghost Recon in the FY2027-28 to FY2028-29 window. The leak’s one testable timing claim has failed. That does not prove the other details wrong; it shows that the information was old when it appeared.

What happened to Red Storm Entertainment

Red Storm is still open. On 19 March 2026, Ubisoft ended game development at the North Carolina studio and cut 105 jobs; TechRadar reported that the remaining staff work on the Snowdrop engine, IT and customer relations. Red Storm founded the franchise in 2001 and no longer makes games. Ubisoft has not said which studio builds the next Ghost Recon.

The same FY26 filing discloses “7 projects discontinued and 6 projects delayed” after a portfolio review. Ubisoft’s Tencent transaction, closed on 21 November 2025, brought €1.16bn into Vantage Studios, a subsidiary built around Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six; Ghost Recon is outside that unit.

What would confirm the rest

In rough order of reliability: an Insider Program playtest whose NDA lifts, a title or trademark filing, a showcase appearance, and a quarterly earnings release that narrows the FY2027-29 window. Until one of these appears, a new Ghost Recon is real and in testing, and its setting, camera and engine have no confirmation from Ubisoft.
