Minecoins are the official in-game currency for Minecraft Bedrock Edition, used exclusively in the Minecraft Marketplace. They let you purchase skins, texture packs, adventure worlds, mini-games, add-ons, and character creator items built by community creators and studio partners. The Marketplace currently hosts over 36,000 pieces of content, with new additions every week. Minecoins are tied to your Microsoft account and carry across every compatible device you sign into.
Minecoins are a digital currency developed by Mojang Studios and published by Microsoft. You buy them with real money and spend them inside the Minecraft Marketplace. Every piece of content on the Marketplace is submitted by members of the Minecraft Partner Program and approved by the Minecraft Content Team, so quality and compatibility are vetted before release.
Here is what you can buy with Minecoins:
Purchases made with Minecoins are permanent. Once you buy a pack, you own it; it is not a time-limited rental.
Minecoins are sold in fixed bundles. Larger bundles always offer a lower cost per coin. The official pricing on the Microsoft Store (in USD) is as follows:
| Bundle | Price (USD) | Cost per 100 Minecoins |
|---|---|---|
| 320 Minecoins | $1.99 | ~$0.62 |
| 1,020 Minecoins | $5.99 | ~$0.59 |
| 1,720 Minecoins | $9.99 | ~$0.58 |
| 3,500 Minecoins | $19.99 | ~$0.57 |
| 8,800 Minecoins | $49.99 | ~$0.57 |
The general rule of thumb is roughly 160 Minecoins per $1 when buying the mid-to-large bundles. Prices vary slightly by platform and region, and third-party retailers sometimes offer codes at different price points. Buying the smallest bundle multiple times costs noticeably more than purchasing a single larger bundle for the same total.
Minecoins work on every platform that runs Minecraft Bedrock Edition:
PlayStation exception: PlayStation consoles use a separate currency called Tokens instead of Minecoins. Tokens function identically within the PlayStation Store but cannot be transferred to or from other platforms. Minecoins purchased elsewhere will not appear on PlayStation, and Tokens will not appear on non-PlayStation devices.
Nintendo change (October 2026): Starting October 27, 2026, Minecoins purchased on a Nintendo device (Switch or Switch 2) will only be usable on Nintendo systems. Likewise, Minecoins purchased on other platforms can no longer be spent on Nintendo devices after that date. However, Minecoins owned before October 27 will move to a Legacy Wallet and remain usable across all compatible platforms with no expiration date.
There are several ways to purchase Minecoins depending on your platform and preference:
You can also buy Minecoins through prepaid digital codes from authorised retailers. This is a popular option for players who prefer not to use a credit card directly or who want to gift Minecoins to someone else.
If you have a 25-digit prepaid code, follow these steps to add the Minecoins to your account:
Once a code is redeemed, the Minecoins belong to whichever account entered the code. Codes cannot be transferred to another account after redemption. Make sure the code's region matches your Microsoft account region, as mismatched regions can prevent the code from working.
The 8,800 Minecoins bundle provides the absolute lowest cost per coin at approximately $0.57 per 100 Minecoins. For most players, though, the 3,500 Minecoins bundle hits the best balance between spending and value. Around 91% of all Marketplace items cost 660 Minecoins or less, and the median paid item costs just 310 Minecoins. That means a 3,500-coin purchase can cover multiple skin packs, a world or two, and still leave coins for later.
A practical tip: always buy in the largest single bundle you can afford rather than stacking smaller purchases. Buying the 320-coin pack five times costs significantly more than one 1,720-coin pack for a similar total.
Understanding what your Minecoins can buy helps you plan the right bundle. Here is a breakdown of typical Marketplace pricing:
| Content Type | Median Price | Typical Range |
|---|---|---|
| Skin Packs | 310 Minecoins | 160 - 3,420 Minecoins |
| World Templates | 490 Minecoins | 160 - 3,420 Minecoins |
| Resource Packs | 830 Minecoins | 160 - 1,690 Minecoins |
| Mash-up Packs | 990 Minecoins | 160 - 1,690 Minecoins |
Roughly 60% of all Marketplace items fall at 320 Minecoins or below, and 206 items are completely free. Even the popular 1,720-coin bundle is enough for several skin packs and a world template.
