Hellraiser: Revival and The Relic: First Guardian Lock In 2026 Release Dates

Hellraiser: Revival arrives October 8, 2026, while The Relic: First Guardian launches July 31. Here is everything you need to know about both dark-themed 2026 titles.

Two of 2026’s most anticipated dark-themed games now have confirmed launch dates. Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival will release on October 8, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, while The Relic: First Guardian lands on July 31, 2026 for PS5 and PC, with Xbox and Switch 2 versions following later in the summer. Both announcements arrived on the same day, June 15-16, making it a landmark moment for horror and Soulslike fans alike.

When Does Hellraiser: Revival Come Out?

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival releases on October 8, 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). The date was revealed alongside a brutal Red Band trailer published on June 16, 2026. Developed by Serbian studio Mad Head Games (a Saber Interactive studio) using Unreal Engine 5, it is the first full video game ever made in the Hellraiser franchise’s nearly four-decade history.

The game’s story was written in direct collaboration with franchise creator Clive Barker. Doug Bradley, who portrayed Pinhead across the first eight Hellraiser films and voiced the character in Dead by Daylight before its removal in April 2025, returns to the iconic role after roughly 20 years away from the franchise. Emil Esov serves as game director.

What Is Hellraiser: Revival About?

Players control Aidan Lynch from a first-person perspective. After a mysterious puzzle box called the Genesis Configuration pulls his girlfriend Sunny into Hell, Aidan descends into the Labyrinth to rescue her. Along the way, he must survive encounters with Pinhead and the Cenobites, battle a fanatical cult known as the Scarlet Church, and harness the box’s infernal powers.

The gameplay blends survival horror resource management with action combat. Players can use melee weapons, ranged firearms, and supernatural abilities granted by the Genesis Configuration. Stealth is a viable alternative to direct combat, giving players freedom to tailor their approach. Classic Cenobites including Butterball, Chatterer, and Deepthroat appear alongside new enemy types like Bruno, a sadistic artist, and various cultists.

Mad Head Games: The Studio Behind Hellraiser

Mad Head Games was founded in 2011 in Novi Sad, Serbia, and has since expanded to offices in Belgrade and Sarajevo. The team now numbers nearly 200 people. Originally known for Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure (HOPA) games with over 300 million downloads, the studio shifted to core action titles after joining Saber Interactive in 2020. Their first action release, Scars Above, shipped in 2023 as a third-person sci-fi shooter.

Hellraiser: Revival is by far their most ambitious project. The studio has spoken openly about working closely with Clive Barker from the earliest stages of development, ensuring the game stays faithful to the original horror vision while expanding the universe. They are also simultaneously developing an unannounced AAA game based on another famous IP.

Hellraiser: Revival Collector’s Editions and Pre-Orders

Three collector’s edition tiers are available for pre-order through Boss Team Games:

  • Genesis Edition ($129.99 USD): Deluxe game copy, LED puzzle box replica, and trading card pack.
  • Cenobite Edition ($199.99 USD): Everything in Genesis plus a polystone Pillar of Souls statue, premium steelbook, art book, enamel pins, fine art print, and a 27×40 inch poster.
  • Pinhead Edition ($249.99 USD): Everything in Cenobite plus a Doug Bradley-signed art print. Limited to 500 units.

The game has been rated Mature 17+ by the ESRB for intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, nudity, and strong language.

When Does The Relic: First Guardian Release?

The Relic: First Guardian launches digitally on July 31, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions will follow later in summer 2026, with exact dates still to be confirmed. A PS5 physical retail edition arrives on September 4, 2026.

The game was originally slated for May 26, 2026. Publisher Perp Games and developer Project Cloud Games announced a delay in April 2026, citing the team’s desire for additional polish time on their debut title. The new July 31 date was locked in alongside a release date trailer on June 15, 2026.

What Kind of Game Is The Relic: First Guardian?

The Relic: First Guardian is a dark fantasy Soulslike action RPG developed by South Korean indie studio Project Cloud Games. Set in the ruined world of Arsiltus, players take on the role of the last Guardian, tasked with collecting fragments of a shattered Great Relic to seal a catastrophic void threatening to consume everything.

Combat draws from Soulslike conventions but introduces distinctive mechanics. Stamina is never consumed by attacks; it is reserved entirely for defence and dodging. Skills operate on cooldowns rather than resource costs. This design allows every player to find their own rhythm and combat flow without worrying about running dry mid-combo.

Over 70 Bosses and a Unique Loot Philosophy

The game features more than 70 boss encounters, each carrying a tragic backstory: former humans transformed into monsters through starvation or curses, having forgotten their names and past lives. Defeating them reveals their personal tales and lays their tortured souls to rest.

The Relic reimagines traditional RPG loot structure. Every weapon and piece of armour exists only once in the entire game world. Each item is a unique artefact with its own history, such as the final blade of a knight who defended hundreds or a shield representing a family’s ancient oath. Five weapon types and 12 exclusive skill trees let players blend abilities to form a class entirely their own. Over 70 unique passive Relics (Runes) can reshape skill behaviour, alter combat tempo, and enhance specific weapon styles.

Project Cloud Games: A Small Korean Studio With Big Ambitions

Project Cloud Games is a small South Korean indie studio led by CEO and art director Sea Ik Park, a former VFX artist at Blur Studio. The team started with just 5 developers in 2021, grew to 11 by 2022, and reached 13 by 2024. The game was first revealed as “Project Relic” at Gamescom 2021 and was initially planned as a multiplayer experience before pivoting to a fully single-player adventure.

The studio places heavy emphasis on visual quality and lighting effects. The semi-open world draws inspiration from Asian folklore, and environmental storytelling through cryptic inscriptions and abandoned journals encourages exploration off the beaten path. PC Gamer has described it as a “Witcher-like RPG rooted in Korean folklore,” highlighting the team’s ambition to blend deep combat with rich narrative.

Things Players Usually Want to Know

Is Hellraiser: Revival multiplayer?

No. Hellraiser: Revival is an entirely single-player, story-driven survival horror experience. There is no online multiplayer or co-op mode.

Does The Relic: First Guardian have traditional levelling?

No. The game removes XP-based levelling entirely. Character growth comes from collecting Relics (Runes), crafting, finding unique equipment, and defeating bosses. Progression is exploration-driven, not grind-driven.

Will The Relic: First Guardian come to Nintendo Switch 2?

Yes. The Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions are confirmed for later in summer 2026, though a specific date has not yet been announced.

Is Hellraiser: Revival connected to the films?

It is set within the Hellraiser universe and features iconic characters like Pinhead, Butterball, and Chatterer. Clive Barker co-wrote the story. However, the plot is a new standalone narrative rather than a direct adaptation of any film. The developers have stated the game draws primary inspiration from the first two Hellraiser movies.

Why was The Relic: First Guardian delayed?

Publisher Perp Games explained that as Project Cloud Games’ debut title, the team wanted extra time to polish the experience. The delay moved the launch from May 26 to July 31, 2026.

A Packed Autumn 2026 Calendar

Hellraiser: Revival’s October 8 window places it squarely in a crowded autumn release schedule, with multiple major titles reportedly clustering in September and October to avoid a direct clash with Grand Theft Auto VI in November. The Relic: First Guardian, with its late July launch, sidesteps most of that congestion. Both games are currently available to wishlist on Steam, and both are shaping up to be standout entries in their respective genres for 2026.
